Kings of Israel and Judah

A parallel Bible timeline from the divided kingdom to exile.

How to Read This Timeline

After Solomon, the kingdom divided. Israel was the northern kingdom; Judah was the southern kingdom. Each date band compares the rulers whose reigns overlapped during that period. The dates are approximate; the biblical order and stated reign lengths remain the main guide.

Why do some dates overlap? At times, a king’s son began sharing royal responsibilities while his father was still reigning. This is called a co-regency. Ancient kingdoms also counted accession years and partial years differently, so reconstructed BCE dates may vary by a few years. Pekah may have ruled as a rival claimant before becoming Israel’s sole king.
